Promo wisata dengan menggelar acara olah-raga kian kerap dalakukan berbagai daerah. Salah satunya pemerintah Kabupaten Kediri yang menggelar Kelud Volcano Road Run untuk meningkatkan kunjungan pelancong ke daerah itu.

Acara Kelud Volcano Run yang menjadi bagian dari Festival Kelud 2017 ini diselenggarakan di jalur menuju puncak Gunung Kelud (1.731 meter di atas permukaan laut), Kabupaten Kediri, Jawa Timur, Ahad, 8/10.

Jumlah peserta mencapai 588 orang datang dari dalam dan luar negeri, misalnya Filipina, Kenya, dan Korea Selatan. Wakil Bupati Kediri Mayskuri mengatakan dipilihnya Gunung Kelud sebagai lokasi kegiatan adalah untuk mengenalkan potensi wisata area gunung ini.

Acara lari dimulai pada Minggu pagi dari desa Sugihwaras, Kecamatan Ngancar. Saat bendera start dikibaskan, rombongan pelari melesat mendaki ke puncak.

Tetapi tak sedikit yang memilih berjalan saja. Lokasi yang menanjak membuat mereka harus mengatur tenaga dan nafas.

Yoga, salah seorang peserta mengaku berlari di jalur Gunung Kelud ini mempunyai tantangan tersendiri. Ia harus mengatur nafas dan keseimbangan tubuh agar sampai ke lokasi puncak.

“Saya ikut acara ini ingin melatih kemampuan berlari. Jalur ini sangat menantang, menanjak, jadi harus benar-benar mempersiapkan tenaga,” kata Yoga, peserta dari Kediri.

Walaupun capai, ia mengaku senang bisa ikut acara ini. Terlebih lagi, pemandangan kawasan gunung sangat menarik. Di sepanjang kiri dan kanan jalan, tumbuhan sudah mulai menghijau, pascaerupsi pada 2014.
